On May 1st I’ll be celebrating the fourth anniversary of the launch of my passion project, Phunky Punk Fashion! Since my twenties, it has been my dream to become a self-published fashion writer. I always had a flair for writing combined with a passion for fashion so I finally took action creating and designing my own website and Phunky Punk Fashion was born!
In April 2017 I started off by writing about the latest high street trends, posting photos of myself wearing classic wardrobe staples such as the leather biker jacket by Zara. I’ve always had a keen interest in fashion history so I started incorporating historical details into my articles.
Most Popular Post
My readers love reading a bit of fashion history too and my most popular post over the past four years is, “How To Do Street Style Punk”. Not only does this article give an interesting account of the history of punk fashion, fashionistas are inspired to create their own punk look by incorporating key pieces into their everyday style. Just start with a biker jacket, leather boots and add a touch of tartan!
Vintage Fashion
My late grandmother continues to influence my sense of style and in September 2020 I published, “My Grandmother is my Style Icon”. As a little girl I used to dress up in her clothes and jewelry and admire myself in the mirror thinking I looked like Cinderella! Going through old photos of my grandmother wearing stylish outfits from the 1930s inspired me to study history of fashion and write about vintage fashion.
Visual Arts
Following completion of my history of art course (awarded by School of the Art Institute of Chicago SAIC), I started painting abstract art in July 2020. I hadn’t put paintbrush to canvas since I was in primary school so understandably, I was a little nervous starting out. However, I discovered I loved creating geometric art pieces in primary colours using oil on canvas.
Sustainable fashion
During 2021 and beyond, supporting sustainably sourced, ethical fashion is more important than ever. As a writer, I encourage my readers to invest in wardrobe staples comprising classic pieces such as a trench coat, white shirt or little black dress that will last for years. I continue to support Irish retailers such as Blarney Woolen Mills, Caraliza and Carraig Donn by promoting Irish made and ethically sourced products, “Gift Your Loved One a Snug Sweater this Christmas” and “Make a Smart Statement with Ethically Handcrafted Jewelry“. Slow, greener fashion is in. Fast fashion is definitely out.
Thank you!
I want to take this opportunity to thank my growing number of readers over the last four years. Your support and encouragement has been invaluable. I hope my articles will continue to delight, excite and inspire you throughout the year! See highlights below of the outfits I’ve blogged about since May 2017:
