Key Summer Trends 2017

So what should you be wearing on your summer holiday this year? What are the key summer trends and statement pieces you should pack in your suitcase? Read on to find out what to buy and where to get them:

1. Fifty Shades of Green

Green is the key colour trend this season. There’s an abundance of shades to choose from to find the perfect shade to suit your skin tone and compliment your outfit: khaki, olive, lime, mint and forest. Khaki has always been my favourite shade. I’m loving the military jacket with floral embroidery by River Island available at Asos for €64. You can pair it with a cropped top and denim jeans for a relaxed, casual look.

2. Bold Prints

Tropical print is a super hot look this summer. What better staple to pack for your summer holiday than a statement bird print dress! The dress I’m wearing here is available at Oasis for only €52. It’s a look that can be transformed from day to night. It can be worn with flats or Converse by day and paired with ankle -strap heels and a snazzy bag for night time. Turn heads at the beach in a pretty, statement print swimsuit with belt detail available at Next for only €33.

3. Classic Cotton Striped Shirt

A wardrobe staple that never goes out of fashion. The amazing thing about a simple cotton shirt is its versatility. You can pair it with denim jeans or skinny white leggings for a casual look or wear it with palazzo pants for relaxed and effortless summer dressing. Right now I’m loving the striped cotton blouse with embroidered design and bell sleeves available at Zara for only €29.95. You can create a boho look by tying the shirt at your waist and wearing it with cut off denim shorts for a leisurely stroll on the beach.

4. Graphic Tees

There is nothing as cool and edgy as a statement band or slogan tee worn with ripped denim jeans combined with a biker jacket for that ‘rock chic’ look! A tee that isn’t just for concert junkies, it can be worn out to brunch with a long, floaty, feminine skirt or tailored trousers to create a ‘cafe chic’ daytime look. I’m fond of the quirky looks so if you’re a Star Wars fan, check out Zara for a cool Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) print tee for only €15.95.

5. Ripped Denim Over Black Fishnets

A very hot trend this season. A perfect way to revive your battered, ripped denim is to wear your sexiest black fishnet tights underneath and pair them with strappy heels or ankle boots to create an edgy look. I’m loving the Isabella ripped denim skinny jeans available at Oasis for €59.

6. Pleated Skirts/Dresses

The perfect staple for any holiday wardrobe, it’s a look that can be transformed from day to night. Short, mid-length or long, there’s an abundance of colours, prints and styles to suit everyone no matter what their shape. For daytime, you can pair a short pleated skirt with Converse and a graphic tee. For nighttime partying on the riviera, opt for a floaty and feminine, spaghetti-strap pleated crepe and lace blue dress available at Next for €89.

7. Get Into the Grit of Prairie Punk

It seems the boho look is here to stay and this season brings us stylish ‘ranch dressing’ with folksy frills, tassels, studs and rodeo buckles. I’m loving the ruffled, gingham skirt by Urban Outfitters for €70, perfect worn with a white, ruffled, cotton, one-shoulder top by Pepe Jeans for €71. Walk the line in these black and white ‘giddy up’ ankle boots available from Schuh for only €88.

8. Monochrome

I absolutely love wearing black and white and have worn it every season for years as it’s always trendy! Whether it’s a striped shirt with plain black tailored trousers or polka dot dress worn with strappy red heels, something in monochrome is an essential item in any wardrobe. It takes you from the office to a night on the town. For the perfect investment piece, check out the Michael Kors polka dot, tiered dress available at Brown Thomas for €225.

It’s exciting to see that there  are so many key summer trends to choose from at affordable prices. You don’t need to spend a fortune to be comfortable and stylish in 2017!
